ROADLINE, the parcels carrier in the National Freight Corporation, is to buy some electric vehicles.
Three Dodge Silent Karrier battery/electric vehicles are to be evaluated by Roadline. One will be based at each of the Bournemouth, Brighton and Bristol depots. The vehicles, which have box-van bodies, have a top speed of 40mph and good acceleration, says Roadline. Range is 45 to 50 miles on one battery charge.
Although they cost more than the conventional dieselengined version, fuel costs are estimated to be half those of diesel vans. Controls are simplicity itself — an accelerator, brake and forward/reverse gear selector.
