ROADS, road haulage, passenger transport, railways and inland waterways are dealt with in this COI pamphlet, on sale through booksellers and Government bookshops.

The statistics show that Britain has 9931 miles of trunk roads, plus 1502 miles of trunk motorways, and only a further 126 miles under construction. Other figures show that • Goods vehicle traffic reached a record 43,060m vehiclekilometres in 1977; 0-licences are held by 124,400 operators.

• Buses and coaches account for about 11 per cent of passenger mileage within the country. And there are about 36,000 taxis.
