ELECTRIC delivery vehicles were examined by Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Industry David Mitchell, MP, earlier this week.
On Wednesday Mr Mitchell visited companies participating in the joint Department of Industry and Greater London Council scheme for assessing electric delivery vans. One of the companies, Initial Services, is expanding its fleet from 21 to 26 vehicles after finding that they reduced running costs by between 28 and 30 per cent by comparison with diesel-engined vehicles.
These particular vehicles, Crompton Electricars, have a payload of up to 2 tonnes, a range of 65km (40 miles), and an operating speed of up to 38km per hour (24mph).
