'TWO new battery-electric delivery vehicles are to be exhibited by Smith's Electric Vehicles, Ltd., Gatesheadon-Tyne, at the Commercial Motor Show next month. Both form in effect part of a new range based on the 25-cwt. Transitruck introduced last year and described in our issue of September 22, 1961: one is a 30-cwt. version of last year's Transitruck, and the other is a 25-cwt. model without the transistorized control equipment which distinguishes the Transitruck.
Both these exhibits will be fitted with the new Smith's Dairy Body, re-designed with sliding cab doors and an allFibreglass cab which gives easy access and a high standard of all-round visibility. There is no timber framing at all in the new bodies, the metal and Fibreglass construction being resistant to corrosion, particularly milk acids.
The transistorized, loss-free control system is known as the Sevcontroller, and this entirely eliminates the usual resistance. resulting in smooth and stepless operation. The 25-cwt. Dairy Truck which shares the Smith's stand with the Transitruck will be slightly smalla than the 30-cwt. model and will have straightseries control.
Other Smith's exhibits at the Show will include a Commuter stand/sit-drive vehicle, a 1-ton bakery van and a mobile butchery shop.
