NEW items of braking equipment to be exhibited by Girling, Ltd., at the Commercial Motor Show will be a range of brake units for light commercials, a range of master cylinders, a two-leadingshoe brake unit for vehicles of 4 tons payload and above and a transmission brake.
The new brake unit range is called the Duo Servo and applies to front and rear brakes. The units are of a simple design and are claimed to enable servo systems to be dispensed with on light vehicles, and the sizes of servos on medium-weight vehieleS.to be reduced. A double-acting internal wheel cylinder operates through push-rods to the primary and secondary shoes. Thrust is transmitted through a floating adjuster unit to the secondary shoe, providing a high degree of selfenergization and said to give two-leadingshoe effect in either, direction of motion.
Integral tanks are employed on the new master cylinders, which are available in 1-, 1.25-. 1.5and 1.75-in. sizes. Fixings common with those used on U.S. vehicles are incorporated.
The two-leading-shoe brake units for heavier vehicles are called the H2LS. They incorporate conventional torque plates and dust covers and have doubleacting wheel cylinders which operate on the ends of the shoes. These units are supplied to manufacturers ready for assembly on the axle flange and give twoleading-shoe operations in either direction of motion. The handbrake linkage works on the same principle.
The transmission brake to be shown is the GNS. This is of a leading-andtrailing-shoe design to give equal forward and reverse holding power and can be mounted either on the rear of the gearbox or in front of the rear axle.
FRANCE IMPORTS MORE, EXPORTS LESS
