Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

FROM September 2, fares on many stage carriage services operated by Oldham Corporation and their five joint operators will be increased by Id. These proposals were granted last week by the North Western Traffic Commissioners.

Mr. F, W. Robson, on behalf of the Corporation, stated that to maintain the differential between limited stop and local services, certain specific fares would have to be increased. Others on special football services would also go up. Their last fares application had been made on July 20, 1961. and during the financial year ending March 31, 1962. they had had a total income of £1,000,371.

Expenditure totalled £916,364 and of the remainder. £52,218 was expended in debt charges. £4.000 went towards the maintenance of buildings, and £15.000 was appropriated for the renewal of rolling stock. Recent wage awards had cost the Corporation £22,540 and the additional fuel oil tax would increase the cost of fuel by some £8.570 in a year. The estimated expenditure for the year 1962-63 was £31,383 in excess of that for 1961-62. It is hoped that the traffic revenue will be increased by £22,608 in the current financial year by the new proposals.

Mr. F. Ashworth. deputy manager of the Oldham Corporation. said that they had reduced frequency in certain areas to economize. At present, their vehicles could not be adapted for one-man operation, but they honed to do this in certain instances in the future.
