Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Commercial vehicle manufacturer Marshall SPV of Cambridge is laying off 90 workers following disappointing sales.

Candidates for voluntary redundancy among the 420strong workforce were asked to come forward by last Monday.

The company produces Bedford 4x4s and also builds its own range of military vehicles, refuse trucks, bus bodies and car transporters.

It acquired the Bedford design rights from AWD last October, but can only use the name overseas because General Motors still has the sole supply rights in this country: "We have had problems with all aspects of Marshall SPV and are scaling down as sales volumes decline,", says personnel director Gordon Schofield. "It is true to say we have had a bit of a dip in Bedford truck orders."

0 Peter Johnson has taken over as managing director of Marshall SPV following Bernard Williams' resignation earlier this month.

Johnson was formerly managing director of the Marshall Motor Group of vehicle distributors.
