DEVON Conversions, of Sidmouth, is aiming for a bigger share of the small bus market with its new range of Volkswagen-based buses.

The new range, based on the VW LT28 van announced several months ago, was revealed to the motoring press last week.

Devon also announced that it proposed to build a purpose-built midibus based on the VW LT35 chassis. This vehicle will be of metal-framed construction with 16-23 seats and it is likely to be available in bus or coach form.

Devon currently produce a 12-seater psv on the LT28 in either petrol or diesel form. The petrol vehicle is powered by a version of the 2-litre engine used in the Audi 100 car, the diesel is a Perkins 2.7-litre unit. The price of the petrol version is £6,795 with the diesel option an extra £664.

Moquette high backed seats are featured with heavy duty inlaid lino on the floor and stainless steel grab rails. The cab passenger seat has been removed and the space con verted into a luggage area enclosed by stainless steel rails and hardwood slats.

A hi-top, 13-seater de luxe version, based on the LT31, is also available to special order.

A non-psv 16-seater-crew bus and a standard and de luxe 15-seater mini-bus, also based on the VW LT28, are in the Devon range, too.

At the bottom end of the range, Devon has introduced a 12-seater minibus, based on the VW one-ton air-cooled engine van.
