40-TONNE five-axle vehicle will do 17 per cent more damage 1 roads than a 32-ton four-axle one, according to the Civic rust.
Statistics — said by the -ust to have come from the epartment of Transport — veal that four per cent less image per ton moved would done by 40-tonners than by imparable 32-tonners.
But the Trust maintains that ten the four percent impromient will be outweighed by creases in the amount of eight carried. A DTp spokesman said the figures were based on a 40-tonne vehicle operating close to its permitted maximum weight.
But if the vehicle carries less than the maximum, the level of damage is likely to be higher.
