TRANSPORT SERVICE EQUIPMENT ON SHOW

DURING the 24 months since the last Commercial Motor Show there has been a great deal of activity in the field of vehicle testing, and, as a consequence vehicle maintenance. It is not surprising therefore to find several exhibits at this year's Show directly connected with both of these aspects of commercial vehicle operation. Test equipment is well to the fore with new designs of chassis dynamometer being featured on many stands. A clean chassis and engine block lend themselves to ease of maintenance and a well-maintained vehicle is the natural result. In this connection the steam cleaning and degreasing equipment on show is well worth inspection.

On Stand 165, Wickham Industrial Equipment Ltd. show a range of cleaning appliances. These range from a steam cleaner suitable for two-gun operation and hot water washing to a degreasing tank with a capacity of 140 gal. Kismet Ltd., on Stand 170, introduce two steam cleaners, the Minimaster and the Chieftain. They are compact and portable. Kismet also show for the first time at Earls Court the Motorlab commercial vehicle dynamometer. and two-, threeand four-post lifts together with optical-alignment equipment. The Equipment and Engineering Co. Ltd., exhibiting on Stand 392, have a pictorial display of their Februat Drive Through vehicle washer and also display garage inspection pit covers. Included in the wide range of equipment on Stand 155, occupied by V. L. Churchill and Co. Ltd., are two new items of particular interest. The diesel engine tachometer is an important innovation in that it enables r.p.m. readings to be made from impulses in an injector pipe without dismantling any part of the vehicle fuel system. A split scale covers the range 0-1000 r.p.m. and 0-5000 r.p.m. The second item is the smoke density monitor, a metering unit which can be used while the vehicle is under normal operating conditions.

Test equipment for engine fuel pump and injectors is well featured on Stand 172 by Dunedin Engineering Co. Ltd.

Vane Electrical Instruments Ltd. introduce on Stand 173 a fully automatic vehicle dynamometer and brake tester, together with two new battery chargers.

Increased power and productivity are almost synonymous terms when considering the use of tools. On Stand 176 Consolidated Pneumatic Tool Co. Ltd. display power guns for cutting heavy gauge metal in body repair shops and a power wrench which greatly reduces the time element in hub nut removal, These and other tools are being demonstrated.

ARO Machinery Co. Ltd., bn Stand 179, has the latest type of single-sided approach welder. The company also demonstrates what it claims to be the fastest gun on the world market. The gun is capable of welding three spots a second on 20 and 20/s.w.g. steel.
