John Pearce, were jailed at Gloucestershire Quarter Sessions last week for stealing five tons of zinc worth £435.
May, was sent to prison for five years, and 'Pearce for nine months. It was said that Pearce, who was employed by 'a firm Of haulage contractors, collected the zinc and later, told his employers that the lorry had been stolen, with part of the load. On thejsame day May sold the load of zinc to a refining company. It was being transferred from one lorry to another when the police arrived.
On behalf of May, it was said that he had led the life Of "an habitual criminal" until 1953 when he had bought his haulage business and settled down. This year he had got into serious financial difficitifies. On behalf of.Pearce, it was said that hire-purchase commitments had left him in serious financial trouble'.
