THE Jack Committee's report on rural bus services would be presented shortly, Mr. Ernest Marples, Minister of Transport, announced on Monday. He was speaking at the annual dinner of the Passenger Vehicle Operators Association in London.
He also stated that a scientific survey of the origin and destination of traffic, to be the basis of future motorways in London, was just starting. He emphasized the difficulties of building underpasses in a town, because of the presence of 'cables and so on underground.
Referring to his American tour earlier this year, he said that Los Angeles was to try to solve its traffic problem by spending 5600m. on public transport.
Answering a plea, by Mr. Arthur Bolton, chairman of the Association, for higher speeds for public service vehicles and bigger box dimensions, he said that these questions were in the Civil Service machine, from which an answer might eventually be expected.
Mr. Bolton asked for the Minister's protections for scheduled operators against " pirates " with small buses.
