WHEN Mr. E. C. Marsh, of Blagdon, VY Somerset, applied to the Western Licensing Authority on Monday to add a vehicle to his B licence, he said that he had 2,000 customers for his carrier's service and each vehicle made up to 60 deliveries a day. In the year ended July, 1954, he earned £12,735, and in the following 12 months £15,607.

R.R.S. (Parcels), Ltd., had employed him to the extent of £61 in the year ended July, 1954, and £118 6s. in the ensuing year.

NEW DEVICE TO TEST FOR DAZZLE

rAA SIMPLE device for testing headlamps and driving lamps to. discover whether they dazzle other drivers has been constructed by Chief Inspector G. E. Glover, Camborne, and Special Constable J. Warmington, Penryn, and is being used in Cornwall. Garages and motoring organizations may borrow the apparatus.

The device consists of a white board with a disc carrying a pointer. There is a sliding rule marked in feet and inches, and a 25-ft. distance cord. The disc is adjusted to the beam of the lamp a short distance away from the vehicle, and then at 25 ft. If the beam hits the centre of the disc, the [amp adjustment I's accurate.

The test takes only a few minutes. Isle of Ely Constabulary already use similar apparatus.

HULL NOT TO CHARGE DOUBLE COLLOWING the Yorkshire Licensing Authority's refusal to grant permission to East Yorkshire Motor Services, Ltd., to charge double fares on Christmas Day, Hull Transport Committee have decided not to take advantage of their power to do so. If the corporation were to charge double fares on Christmas Day, the rate from the city centre to the perimeter would be 8d., against a 4d. fare on E.Y.M.S. services.
