Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

LAST week the employers' representatives on the National Joint Wages Board for the vehicle-building industry rejected a claim for higher pay for workers. The National Union of Vehicle Builders; the Amalgamated Society of Woodcutting Machinists and the Electrical Trades Union sought an extra 6d. an hour for all adult workers, a basic minimum rate of 4s. 6id. an hour, and proportional adjustments in females' and juveniles' scales.

The employers referred to -the increase of 3d. an hour for skilled workers granted last May by the Industrial Disputes Tribunal. For some employees, the required basic minimum would have entailed an increase of ad. ai hour.

EXTRA fl SOUGHT

AA CLAIM for an increase of £1 a week for grocery van drivers employed by members of the Retail Grocery, Dairy and Allied' Trades Association and the Federated Union of Employers in Dublin, Dun Laoghaire and Bray has been investigated by the Irish Labour Court, who will make their recommendations later.

FITTERS' PAY CLAIM

TWO thousand fitters and turners employed by ISO companies in Dublin and Cork are claiming higher pay. They originally asked for an extra 6d. an hour and rejected an offer of 3d., but are considering a new one.

IRISH ASSOCIATION LINK

A JOINT committee is to be estab

lished for co-operation between the Irish Licensed Haulage Contractors' Association and the Beet Hauliers' Association. Negotiations between the two bodies have been carried on over the past two years, and it has been agreed that each should continue to function independently but have facilities for consultation with the other.

BEADLES FOR B.E.T.

TWO British Electric Traction group concerns have ordered a total of 12 Beadle-bodied coaches. Southdown Motor Services, Ltd., require five 4I-seat central-entrance bodies of light steel construction mounted on Leyland Tiger Cub chassis, and five CommerBeadle integral construction light-alloy 4I-seaters with TS3 oil engines.

A. Timpson and Sons, Ltd.. have ordered two Comrner-Beadle vehicles.
