Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

KNOWN as the Autoscope, a new device to indicate when depression of the accelerator exceeds engine requirements has been produced by Douglas Holt (1919), Ltd., Eagle Street, London, W.C.-l.

' The instrument is fitted to the inlet manifold of the engine and variations in vacuum depression are recorded by a senstive diaphragm. When so affected, two electrical contacts complete a circuit to light a small lamp on the dashboard.

Whilst its principal function is to ensure economical use of the accelerator, the Autoscope will alsodetect faults caused-by leaks in the induction system., defective valve mechanism or worn or damaged cylinders.

The purpose of the Autoscope is fuel economy. The device is on exhibition at the Motor Show.
