By Roger Brown WINCANTON IS offering to set up consolidation centres across the UK for construction companies in partnership with logistics firm Clipfine.
As part of any project,Wincanton says it will be able to provide: • Online order tracking to ensure safe delivery of goods • Secure housing and transportation of goods • Management information • Waste management • A reduction in fuel costs and carbon emissions through route planning and road mile reduction Wincanton has also acquired German warehousing and transport specialist ELI in a deal worth an initial €12m (£9.5m) but may rise by a further €3m (£2.4m) subject to its financial performance.
ELI employs 130 people and operates a fleet of 100 vehicles.
• Wincanton has successfully secured a five-year contract to manage electrical retailer Comet's new South-Eastern distribution centre.
The logistics firm will deliver products to Comet stores in the South-East from the 380,000ft (35,300m) distribution centre in Harlow, and manage ihe company's home delivery service.
It will also recover end-of-life electrical stock from customers' homes and transfer it for reuse or recycling at its Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) facility in Billingham, Teesside.
