HE VOLKSWAGEN Transporter us, despite its name, is actually lore of a car than a bus. It only as eight seats and is not lerefore to be regarded as a ublic service vehicle, but there re numerous areas where a Dach operator would find it ery useful.
For example, with current rivers' hours legislation so tringently enforced, delays on )urs or at ferry ports and airorts can mean that replacelent drivers need to be driven uickly to relieve them.
The VW is large enough to do us, and it can double as a depot inaround for it is toughly built nd has the luggage capacity for pare parts and tools.
Its length and breadth are Imilar to that of many private ars, and inexperienced drivers mid handle it without probIms.
There is leg room enough to ruise comfortably at the legal laximum cruising speed on lotorways and the driving posion and visibility were excellent. I did however, find it susceptile to cross winds, though wind oise was not a problem.
Inside, the driver's and front assenger seats are mounted on latforms above the level of the ix seats in the main saloon rea. Access to the saloon is lough the front seats or a large earsidisliding door.
The main saloon seats are in vo rows, with the extreme earside seat in the front row eying a fold-down back rest to lake it easier for passengers in le back row.
There is a particularly large Iggage area behind the seats id this can be increased by [wering the rear seat back rest. The rear luggage area is 000mm (39.4in) by 1,555mm 1.21n) on a platform 1,140mm ■ 2in) deep. It has a large lift-up Dor supported by a strut.
The side sliding door can be paned and locked from both le inside and outside and the vo rows of saloon seats can be natively easily removed (by alts for the rearmost seat and ing bolts for the centre row) to lye full carrying capacity.
