HAULAGE DRIVERS' Transport and General Workers Union branches were being sent a circular on Monday this week, urging them to support the 24-hour transport "day of action" on November 8.
The long-awaited circular says that the health service workers have never needed the transport workers' support as much as they do now, and it urges them to take part in the one-day stoppage. Own-account drivers are also being encouraged to strike.
There is still little evidence of widespread support for the strike call, although West Midlands TGWU officer Jim Hunt told CM that his members are "very sympathetic" towards the health service workers' cause. His branch members were still being notified of the union's policy this week.
