Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Keywords : Haulage

I AM NOT SURPRISED at the comments of Mr Witcher (CM September 11). No wonder the RHA is not loved by all hauliers. They never helped me at all when I wrote to them about starting in road haulage.

Haulage, as we all know, is an expensive business, not to be tried by the faint-hearted. To say that hopeful newcomers with no prospects of obtaining work are spoiling the industry's image is silly; there are not many fools about these days in any business and I am sure, with the present levels of standards which one has to reach in road haulage, no fool would start out without work.

As for chasing too few loads, computers, as shown by BRS have cut empty running to the minimum. Look at the loads advertised in this magazine alone each week. The ownerdrivers of this country are the backbone of this industry as in many others. Mr Witcher is obviously a Labour supporter, not knowing if he's right wing or left.

A. KEETON, Doncaster.
