Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Objections by British Railways to two different applications for additional vehicles by local operators were withdrawn when the cases came up for hearing before the South Wales LA at Swansea last week.

Corker and Bevan Ltd applied for one 19-ton articulated trailer for the carriage of aluminium.

Mr Derek Poiner, the company's manager, said they operated 10 vehicles but the import of aluminium at Swansea docks was being stepped up.

H. A. Edwards (Transport) Ltd applied for two 94-ton trailers for the carriage of steel and tinplate.

Transport manager Mr T. A. Walters said the trailers had been operating on a short-term licence.

Both applications were granted.
