Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

to 821ft.

1-1 A MOBILE building . crane possessing the advantages of rail-mounted units but with many other additional beneficial features has been

introduced by Steels Engineering Products, Ltd., Crown Works, Sunderland. It is known as the Coles lorry-mounted tower crane. It can be converted to a strut-jib appliance and raise and lower its own tower, and travel long distances from site to site at much lower cost than that of moving static plant. It is electrically operated, generating current by means of an oil or petrol engine, which makes it cornpktely independent of trailing cables and power points.

each by separate 'electric motors energized from • a specially designed generator coupled to the power Unit.

• The chassis upon which the crane is mounted is a specially designed Coles rigid , six-wheeler with four-wheel drive. Large pneumatic tyres are fitted all round.

Telescopic girder stabilizers provide a fixed base when handling loads. One model, which is fitted with a 60-ft. tubular jib, will lift 5 tons at 24-ft. radius to a height of 82 ft. 6 in. It will handle 2 tons at 42 ft. radius to a height of 71 ft. 6 in. Hoist speeds: are available up to 120 ft. per min. with 1 ton on the hook.

The operator is seated 36-ft. above ground, affording him good visibility. The travel motion can be operated with the tower erected, but for travelling over greater distances or under overhead obstructions, the machine can lower its own tower to provide a clearance height of 22 ft. 9 in.

Full-circle slewing of the superstructure in either direction without limit The new Coles LT.2310 crane with 60-ft. jib, demonstrating the height of its lift and outreach. The building is 29 ft. to the eaves, 35 fi. to the ridge, and is 100 ft. wide. The pivot of the jib is 36 ft, _above ground level.

can be achieved and the jib, which is of strong tubular construction, can be derricked from maximum to minimum radius in 90 sec.

Many safety devices are incorporated, including self-resetting automatic limit switches to protect the machine and load should attempts be made to hoist or derrick beyond the prescribed limits, and automatic electromagnetic brakes to hoist and derrick motions, which are immediately applied should the supply of current be interrupted.

An automatic safe-load indicator is available as optional equipment. This warns the operator of any tendency to overload the crane, irrespective of the position of the jib, and automatically prevents lifting an unsafe load.

The unit can be converted to a strutjib crane in 58 minutes.
