Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Live exports of sheep and lambs from the UK to the Benelux countries soared by nearly 50% in 1994, despite a series of

mass demonstrations against the trade. Government figures show 223,000 sheep and lambs were transported to Benelux last year; up 49% on 1993. Belgium and Luxembourg imported most of the UK livestock: only 95,000 went to the Netherlands.

From January to July this year just 29,000 sheep and lambs were exported but the Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Food says that because of the seasonal nature of live sheep and lamb exports this figure does not indicate the eventual total for 1995.
