BEDFORD, with exports this year 40 per cent up on 1984, and Ford have scored significant export successes.
The sale of Bedford Midi vans and minibuses in France and Italy has helped to boost export business, but most of the increase, says Bedford, has come from orders for 'FM heavy trucks.
One big recent order, worth 16 million, came from the United Arab Emirates for 130 special TM six-wheelers.
Unlike the TM 6-6 military model, these 130 have Detroit Diesel 6V92TA twostroke engines and sand tyres.
Ford has won an order to supply 150 12.5 tonne GVW Cargo 1311 trucks to China. The order, which is worth approximately 12.4 million at showroom prices, will be shipped by the end of this year and follows a lengthy visit to the UK by a Chinese delegation, which visited the Cargo production plant at
Langley, the testing and provhig ground at Boreham, and the Dun ton research centre-.
The order is for 80 tippers bodied by Telehoist of Cheltenham, and 70 chassis cabs to be bodied in China.
