A GUARANTEED working week of I-1 40 hours, reduced from 42 hours, has been agreed by Schweppes Ltd. and Pease Transport Ltd., for members of the Transport and General Workers Union employed by them. Announcing this, the union states that the Schweppes management would not agree to any increase in basic pay, because of a substantial drop. in sales. Pease Transport agreed to increase basic rates by amounts up to 9s. I Id. a week.

Meanwhile Calor Gas Holdings Ltd. has agreed that basic rates for its drivers should be increased by a further 21s. per week, while the bonus payments for special duties are reduced by 6d. an hour. The new rates are backdated to November 12, Sunday working is now being paid at double time by Nestles Ltd., instead of the time and a half rate which applied previously. The application for an increase in basic wage rates is under consideration. Agreement has been reached with Jet Petroleum Co. Ltd: for the new rates under the arbitration awardfor the petroleum distribution industry to be applied retrospectively; the new rates will thus be paid as from September 3 last.

More fOr Flour Men Drivers and mates will benefit from a pay rise in the flour milling industry, their wages going up by about six per cent from last Monday. The weekly wage for men will rise by I ls. a week, but some transport workers will receive an extra 4s. a week because a grade has been eliminated.

The T.G.W.U.'s application for extra payment for collection and delivery service drivers has not been accepted by British. Road Services; the union had pointed out that these drivers have considerably more varied and responsible duties than those in the general haulage section. The B.R.S. board have agreed to consider the matter further.
