THE main items of interest in the commercial vehicle field at the Smithfield Show, which opens at Earls Court, London, on Monday and closes on Friday. are to be found in the trailers and loaders. Taskers of Andover (1932), Ltd., Andover, Hants (Stand 72), will be showing a large range of trailers, among which will be a new 3-ton Model with hydraulic tipping gear.
It has been designed. for use with all makes of tractor, the tipping pivot and axle being at the extreme rear. This arrangement provides a ground clearance of 2 ft. at all angles of tip, the maximum being 50 degrees. The loading height is 2 ft. 10 in. The drawbar carries a universal hitch incorporating either a detachable skid or a screw-down support leg or both. It will be shown with a timber body, but it can be supplied with an all-metal one.
F. W. Wheatley (Trailers), Ltd., Wheatley Avenue. Padholme Road, Peterborough, will show a number of trailers on Stand 124. The Gloucester Universal model has a capacity of 3 tons and can be supplied with either hydraulic or screw tipping gear. New frame members have been designed for this trailer and for the Deeping model, a fourwheeler also to b.; shown.
A bulk spreader will form one of the exhibits of Atkinson Agricultural Appliances, Ltd., Enterprise Works, Kendal Street, Clitheroe, Lanes (Stand 135). The body has a capacity of either 5 or 7 tons and it is designed so that it can be
mounted on any suitable chassis. The mechanism used gives a width of spread of 30-40 ft., the rate of distribution being from 1 cwt. to 5 tons per acre.
In addition to tipping rams, Telehoist, Ltd., Telehoist Works, Swindon Lane, Cheltenham (Stand 31) will show an example of their Teleloader, a simple hydraulic appliance. It is readily fitted to vehicles or trailers, the example to be shown being on a trailer.
Landmaster, Ltd., Hucknall, Nottingham, are responsible for the Yak light tractor and the Truc-Tracta (Stand I 1 1). The Yak, which has a payload of 10 cwt., is powered by a 5 h.p. petrol or vaporizing-oil engine, whilst the Truc-Tracta, also for 10-cwt. loads has a 2 h,p. air-cooled petrol engine.
The Stanhay Ditchmaster—Stanhay (Ashford), Ltd., Elwick Works, Ashford, Kent (Stand 136)—is a new machine for use in cleaning ditches up to 11 ft. deep or 13 ft. wide. It can also be used for digging trenches.
