MeTaggart, the commercial traveller, was impacking his sidecar after a tour of Aberdeen district on his cycle combination: "Mind yon can, Jeanie," he warned. "It's fu' o' petrol, an' I got it a' for naething."
Mrs. Mac's face registered incredulity.
"Ye see, every ca' I made took in that wee bottle and askit for a fill o' petrol for primin', as she was awfte slow to starrit, and before I made the next ca' I tilted it into you can. And naebody askit me a hawbee for the spurrit. Wha'll say the Scots are mean after that."
