Metropolitan Police and Vosa have joined forces in a major clampdown on problems caused by trucks in the Blackwall Tunnel. Currently, enforcement measures are only taken where the operator is identifiable from its livery. All LGVs involved in breakdowns or overheight collisions in the tunnel will now be passed to Vosa for further action to be taken against the driver and operator, action that could extend to referral to the traffic commissioner. Other measures include an on-site office with weighing and inspection facilities, as well as authentication number plate recognition and weigh-in-motion sensors on the A2 to identify problem vehicles before they reach the tunnel.
