for 40 16to 19-year-old engineering apprentices to join the manufacturer's apprentice programme in August. Launched last year, the company claims the scheme has achieved retention rates well above the industry average. Developed with Stockport College, the bespoke two-year programme leads to a Level 2 Engineering apprenticeship, with the opportunity for youngsters to continue to Level 3 and HND level.
Joint MD John Cartwright said: "We're delighted at the quality of the first year's intake. It's been a highly successful programme, with the apprentices already making a valuable contribution."
In their first year, the apprentices will undergo six rotations within individual departments every eight weeks to experience each stage of the manufacturing process before selecting an area in which to specialise. Skills include welding, hydraulic, electrical and air fitting and testing, general fitting and assembly, machine operation, finishing and pre-delivery inspection.
