Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Business failures in the transport and communication industry in England and Wales totalled 1,379 during 1986 — up 5% from 1,314 failures in 1985.

According to the latest figures from financial analysts Dun & Bradstreet the largest number of failures (603) occurred in London and the South East. — some 44% of the total. Failures in the North West amounted to 181 while the North East accounted for 154 and the South West 141.

Company liquidations rose by 0.5% to 849, while bankruptcies among firms, partnerships and individuals rose by 13% to 530.

The failure rate in the transport and communication industry is currently running at 2.1% of the total VAT registrations in the sector (64,528 companies).
