• Competition for parcels carriers in the express parcels market is likely to increase this month with the launch by the Post Office of a new bulk mail service operated completely separately from its conventional mail service.
The Post Office plans to use the new service to carry presorted business mail for large business users. A mixture of road and rail distribution will be used to carry the mail, and the Post Office is currently choosing routes for the distribution.
So far 14 routes have been decided upon. All the bulk mail business will be carried by the Post Office, but it is not yet clear whether any additional vehicles will be purchased for the work.
