COMPETITION
• Entries are now open for the 1987 Commercial Motor Livery Competition. The competition is open to all operators of commercial vehicles — everything from the smallest van to the biggest articulator, from the smallest minibus to the most luxurious coach. There is no limit on the size of fleet involved: past winners have ranged from owner-drivers to the very biggest operators like the Post Office.
The object of the competition is to identify and reward the best commercial vehicle livery in Britain. There is no set formula by which such things can be judged: simplicity ranks equal with adventurous design in our eyes. The overwhelming criterion by which entrants will be judged is the effectiveness in conveying to the public the good image of the operator of the vehicle.
There are four principal classes in the competition: Class 1: Goods vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes gross.
Class 2: Goods vehicles 7.5 to 16.26 tonnes gross.
Class 3: Goods vehicles above 16_26 tonnes gross.
Class 4: Passenger service vehicles.
In addition, there are two special awards: The FTA prim: for the best vehicle in any of classes 1, 2 or 3 from a fleet of 15 vehicles or less; donated by the Freight Transport Association; The Fasson Award: for the livery which makes the best use of self-adhesive materials; donated by Fasson UK.
