Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Leyland Daf has dismissed suggestions that it intends to quit building PSV chassis in Britain.

In the latest edition of the Bus and Coach Council's magazine Platform, Ian McKinnon, chief executive of recently-privatised Leyland Bus — now no longer a part of Leyland Daf — states that newly-merged Leyland Daf "has no current plans for the manufacture and assembly of bus and coach chassis in the UK".

Leyland Daf, however, says that it will be launching its own Roadrunner-based PSV chassis before the end of the year, in direct competition to Leyland Buses' Swift chassis — also derived from the Roadrunner.

The Leyland Daf bus chassis, which will replace the old Terrier-based Leyland Cub, is designed for bodywork of up to 25 seats. Unlike the midengined Swift the Leyland Daf chassis will have a frontmounted engine and will be aimed at welfare buyers, as well as city bus operators.

Pioneer Coaches of Jersey will be the first operator to take delivery of a Leyland Bus Swift minibus when a 39-seat Wadham Stringer-bodied vehicle goes into service at the beginning of June.
