• The duration of licences held by associated companies Montgomery Transport and Gasketls Transport (GB) has been cut by 12 months by acting North Western Licensing Authority Keith Waterworth.
The two companies appeared at a public enquiry after admitting 59 offences of permitting drivers to exceed the hours limit (CM 22 November 1986).
Explaining steps taken to prevent drivers exceeding the hours limits Bryan Green, for the two companies, said there had been no financial gain. The majority of the offences arose because drivers tied to ferry times at Stranraer had been held up by road works. A system whereby a 'jump jockey' took over the vehicle near its destination to take it to and from the docks was abandoned at the request of the drivers, but had since been reinstated.
Warning the two companies, Waterworth prematurely terminated the Montgomery licence so that it expires in February 1988 instead of February 1989 and the Gaskells' licence so that it expires at the end of October 1989 instead of 31 October the following year.
