No. 4, organized by the Institute of British Carriage and. Automobile Manufacturers for a design for a crush-load single-decker, based on an underfloorengined chassis, has been won by -Mr.
D. G. Thaxter,. of Mill Hill. Second prize of £50 went to Mr. E. I. Owen, Wolverhampton, and third, of £30, to Mr. R. £3. Birt, Cambridge. ,
These three also gainedthe medal of the Worshipful Company of, Coach Makers and Coach Harness Makers. The design of Mr. L. A. Taylor, Walsall, was commended.
In the competition open to minors for a design for a 5-ton drop-sider, Mr. H. W. Mann, New Barnet, won the first prize of £25, Mr. E. C. Ball, Bushey Heath, second of £20, and Mr. J. Leaver, Perth, third of £15.
These designs and those in other competitions Will be on show at the offices of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, 148 Piccadilly, London, W.1, from June 4-7.
BELFAST EARNINGS DOWN AOTOR BUS and trolleybus earnings of IVI Belfast Transport Department fell slightly in the year ended April 20 compared with the previous 12 months. Motorbuses carried 659,903 fewer passengers and yielded £987 less, and trolleybuses carried 503,582 fewer and receipts dropped by £582. 'The mileage covered by both kinds of -vehicle dropped by 30,226.
MORRIS SHOW
D EFRIGERATED vans, car and scooter transporters, four-wheel-drive vehicles and third-axle conversions will be among the types to be displayed during the Morris-Commercial show week from June 9-13 at the exhibition hall and grounds of the Austin Motor Co., Ltd., Longbridge, Birmingham. There will also be a demonstration of mechanicalhandling equipment.
