ANappeal by Mr, S. C. Shergold (Tidworth Motor Coaches) against the South Eastern Traffic Commissioners' refusal of a backing for an express service between Bulford Camp and Glasgow has been upheld, it was announced on WednesdayThis is in accordance with the recommendations of Mr, J. M. Glen, who heard the appeal (The Commercial Motor, January 31).
The appeal has been upheld "to facilitate the pooling of the resources of operators to meet the requirements for transport. The Minister trusts that the operators concerned will not overlook the importance in the public interest of operating the services licensed to the best advantage of the Servicemen for whom they are provided."
LOSS TO CONTINUE
A LTHOUGH they claimed that they I—I lost ls. 8d. per mile on the journey, the Midland General Omnibus Co., Ltd., have been refused permission by the East Midland Traffic Commissioners to withdraw an early morning Sunday service between Alfreton and Chesterfield (The Commercial Motor, May 23.) The application was opposed by six councils.
SLABS NOT " SOCIAL " QTONE slabs carried in the back of a utility vehicle were not covered by an insurance clause for "social, domestic or pleasure" use, said a police prosecutor before Sheffield magistrates last week. A demolition contractor was found carrying the slabs, and pleaded guilty to driving the vehicle without suitable insurance. He admitted that he was taking the slabs to a customer and was fined B.

NEW AUSTRALIAN PLANT
FULL production is expected to begin at the end of August in a new plant now being built in Melbourne, Australia, for Leyland Motors, Ltd. The company's Australian headquarters will then be moved from Sydney to the new factory.
