EMPLOYERS cannot reasonably be expected to accept the reduction of efficiency that would be caused by reemploying men in temporary grades on resuming work after the industrial stoppage in February last.

This decision was recently given by the Reinstatement Umpires' Tribunal on an appeal by Herbert Skeggs, formerly a machinist at the factory of the Daimler Co., Ltd., at Browns Lane, Coventry. He was reinstated at Browns Lane after service with the Forces, but was suspended when the factory was closed on account of the fuel shortage.

When work was resumed, he was reengaged at the Radford factory, but left because he thought that the payment made there for piecework was less favourable than at Browns Lane. He claimed compensation, but the Daimler concern pointed out that it had over 200 men in similar circumstances.
