In the gear-driven models theselevating gear consists of two single:screws at the front end, hut in the petrol-electric type the body is of the run-back-and-tip-over type, the gear being power operated. Several interesting types 'of gear are utilized on Thornycroft .chassis. The new aide tipper is quite a novelty, and was recently described by us in our page devoted to patent specifications. In another Vehicle a hydraulic ram is situated behind the cab, the connection to the body being by wire cables. The gear is of the Bromilow and Edwards hydraulic type embodying twin rams, positioned approximately below the centre of the body. A similar type of three-way tipping ear is employed on some of the Commer Oar vehicles. Another type of Commer Car gear is shown in one of our illustra tions, and consists of two single handoperated screws behind the driver's cab. Another of our illustrations shows the Palladium side-tipping wagon, a number of which has been supplied to Trollope and Cells, Ltd., whilst Others have been einplpyed on building contracts in Chinas The F.W.D. wagon and trailer are particularly interesting, as the hydraulic rams utilized on wagon and trailer are operated by a single pump from the engine, the connection to the trailer ram being by means of a flexible tube.

We have already referred. to the 2-ton Austin tipping wagon. This can be sup plied with hand-operated screw gear, side-tipping gear of the balanced type, or hydraulic. gear for tipping in three directions.

One .of the. features of the Star tip-.

ping wagon is that it has a short wheelbase, which enables it to be accommo

in three directions. It s of the hydraulic type and is .practically " foel-protd."

The Eagle Engineering Co., Ltd., are, of course. specialists in tipping bodies tots. of the side and end-tipping variety. The one which we illustrate on another page is of the side-tipping gravity type.

It is interesting to note that the Seam-. mell tractor lorry is now being sold as a tipping wagon for 10-ton loads. In the Albion wagon a Hele-Shaw pump provides oil for a telescopic ram at the front of the body.

As 'regards steamers, Fodens, Ltd., employ",a central hydraulic rain driven from the feed pump. A similar type, of gear is also employed on the Sentinel undertype _wagon, whilst the Atkinson has a telescopic screw situated at the front of the body and driven by a small separate steam-engine.
