DRIVER TRANSPOR1. Training is expanding its national franchise network.The .Stanton. Suffolk-based firm started spreading its wings two years ago. Now there are 18 franchises, which are located predominantly in East Anglia, the Midlands, and the South-West.
franchise opened in Hayes, Middlesex. Paul Van der Hulks, franchise director, says that Driver Transport Training aims to establish more branches in the North of England.
DTT provides truck and forklift training, CPC courses and ADR tuition.
Potential franchisees must meet the firm's strict criteria if they are to join the fold, says Van der Hulks. "They must have a good head for business. and some sales and financial experience."
Solid business skills matter more than road transport industry knowledge. Successful franchise managers are put through an intensive two-week residential course at the LYIT base. designed to provide them with information about the haulage business.
DTT has also become an OFEX member (the independent public market for small and medium-sized enterprises). -We've set up the DTT Group," he explains,"which wholly owns Driver'Transport Training and the DTI' franchising company."
The ISO 9001 quality standard, says Van der Hulks, is gradually being rolled out across the whole of the network.
But it's more important, he adds. that there is harmony between the franchise and franchisee. 'Franchising is like a marriage; both parties have to be good for each other."
