• Brazil took the lion's share of Scania's 3,704 bus sales in 1988, buying 1,267 vehicles compared with 915 the previous year. The Brazilian market dwarfs all others: Scania sold 404 buses to Spain, 221 to Argentina, 180 to Finland and 145 to British companies.
Self-drive team
• Carlyle Bus Centre of Birmingham and Hyndburn Transport of Accrington have teamed up to launch a PSV self-drive hire service, offering a range of vehicles from minibuses to doubledeckers. "Tell us what you need and we will supply it," says company director Barry Childs.
