• Meachers Group has bought freight forwarding firm Oast (Agencies) in Southampton and will open five more distribution centres this year.
Managing director Bob Terris says the company also plans to open freight forwarding offices in Gillingham, Kent where it has just set up a transport depot.
Terris says the expansion drive will establish Meachers as a national distributor: "Centres will be set up in the South West, Midlands, North West, North East and Scotland and each site will have an Operators licence for 20 vehicles. With the acquisition of Oast, we can now offer customers a complete package of services."
The Meachers Group has seven UK sites and about 100 vehicles. It is involved in transport, warehousing, distribution contract services, vehicles, sales, parts, vehicle rental and vehicle recovery.
