Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• When Hertfordshire-based 1MC (Engineers) updated its Monaflex tyre repair system, it turned to Controls & Automation to provide the allimportant temperature control units.

The system is claimed to be the world's first mobile tyre vulcanising technique, developed specifically for on-thespot permanent repair to any size of tyre.

Although the system is designed for simplicity and requires the minimum of training for operators, says Controls & Automation, the curing process which can take up to seven hours with the largest of tyres, demands extreme accuracy of temperature control, usually at a constant 130°C to ensure that no burning of the rubber occurs.

The company decided to improve the design of its control panel and, following successful trials, introduced the new, miniature, microprocessorbased CAL 9000 PID controller, capable of maintaining setpoint temperatures with minimal drift over long periods, with the additional positive benefit of reliably operating outdoors in varying climatic conditions anywhere in the world.
