• Richard Shepherd, MP for Aldridge and Brownhills, cut the first turf of the 22 million truck centre being built by the S Jones group at Aldridge, West Midlands, which will house one of the biggest service workshops in the UK.
• Brian Smith moves up from Valentine automotive paints manager for the Midlands and East Anglia to national sales manager responsible for the day to day running of the sales force. He joined Berger paints in 1963, transferring to Pinchin Johnson in 1975 and then the Refinish Division of International Paint when it ac
quired Pinchin Johnson and he became product manager.
• Mike Erentraut is promoted by GKN Autoparts to general manager of its new Truckparts Air Brake Centre, Lincoln. He was previously manager. Chris Firth from Bendix joins as assistant manager.
• John Elliott becomes sales manager of Dana's subsidiary Brown Brothers following the move of Roy Rogers to distribution sales. Elliott was northern sales manager. Andrew Harris leaves. Reading to succeed Richard James as Monza sales manager. James is now South Thames general manager. Lester South moves from Spicer Transmission to Spicer Clutch as UK sales manager. • Philip Burgess is the new managing director of Betax International vehicle exhaust extraction equipment supplier.
• John Hall joins Metalock Britain as general manager. He previously managed a service centre specialising in steam turbine and compressor repair.
• Roger Bill becomes divisional director, engines division, for GKN Autoparts, taking "a key role in supplier negotiations for engine parts", and confirming ,GKN ADL's commitment to the engine parts aftermarket. Bill was GKN ADL's western director.
