Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• There is a greater likelihood of trouble with a power take-off either when it has been removed from the transmission, or when work is being done on the gearbox or the clutch. The following guidelines should ensure that such problems are minimised: • If the pt-o is removed from the transmission, always use new gaskets when replacing it, and check the backlash again; with older units, new studs and bearings should also be used.

• When replacing a pt-o, ensure that it has been flushed out with fluid as well as the transmission, especially after gearbox problems.

• Never use a joining compound when mounting a pt-o.

• If changing the accessory mounted on the pt-o, or moving the pt-o to another vehicle, always check with the supplier that the new set-up is fully compatible.
