WE ARE now accepting entries for CM's 1985 Vehicle Livery Competition. This is the eighth year of the event, which grows in popularity annually.
The 1985 competition will be in four sections with two classes in each, one for operators and one for bodybuilders.
The four sections are: vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes; over 7.5 tonnes to 16 tonnes; over 16 tonnes; and buses and coaches. Each class winner will receive a silver salver to be presented at the Scottish Motor Show on opening day, November 9.
Winning entries will be featured in CM, as will those highly commended by the judging panel. The judges will be graphic designers, a member of our staff and a member of the 13,000-strong Freight Transport Association. This is a prestige event and is designed principally to show the public the better face of road transport.
What will the judges be looking for?
They want to see a livery which tells the public what business the vehicle is engaged in; who owns it; and where to get in touch, and in as few words as possible. They will look at how the available body space is used; how bodywork "obstacles" are overcome or used; the composition of the colour scheme; and the type face employed.
We do not need to know the cost of the paint job. An inexpensive job is just as likely to win as one which makes a dent in the bank balance.
Whether the vehicle is sign written or transfers are employed will not affect the judgment. This is a competition which is open to all. Here is how to enter:—
(a) Send us four 35mm transparencies (in colour). They should show both sides, full front and rear of the vehicle.
(b) Enclose an entry fee of £15 for each vehicle.
lc) Complete the entry form below and return it with the fee. Here are some tips. Photograph a clean vehicle; do not use a cluttered background—it is the vehicle we will be judging; protect the transparencies with light cardboard. Transparencies will not be returned.
The closing date is June 14, but do not delay. The competition is open now.
