FOLLOWING deregulation bus engineers will come under some more pressure, Eastern Counties chief engineer Ken Poison told an Institute of Road Transport Engineers' open forum last week.

West Midland PTE directorgeneral told the same meeting that his concern was not directly with deregulation but with the pace of change.
He pointed out that even now all Traffic Commissioners' reports refer to lack of resources. He added: "If deregulation leads to a huge number of new operators, enforcement (of maintenance standards) will be very difficult. The Government's desire to save manpower conflicts with its desire to maintain safety."
