ROADLINE UK now has its own managing director, Graham Roberts. Until his appointment on March 25 that responsibility had been held by the group managing director of the National Freight Consortium's Parcels Group, in which Roadline is the largest business unit. The new job has been created to strengthen the position of Roadline.
Mr Roberts was previously managing director of NFC's Cartransport subsidiary, the company he joined in 1978 as operations manager. In becoming its managing director at the end of 1981 (he had been operations director for over a year) he took over from Bill Collins, who went to the United States to run the NFC's company there, Merchants Home Delivery Service.
As reported in CM (January 12) Mr Collins returned to head Parcels Group as managing director. Now, Mr Roberts will be reporting directly to him.
After joining NFC as a management trainee in 1971, Mr Roberts held several management posts in Pickfords Tank Haulage between 1972 and 1978. He was commercial manager before moving to Tankfreight as general manager of fleet haulage in 1978.
