TRUCK RACING and Britain's premier road safety event for lorry drivers will be unlikely partners on August 18, if the Multipart Truck Grand Prix and the Lorry Driver of the Year finals are held concurrently at Silverstone race track.

Big changes are to be made in the LDoY final, following CM's decision Iast year to cease sponsoring it. It will almost certainly be held this year on August 18 at Silverstone, where the Truck Grand Prix will take place before an estimated 100,000 spectators.

Although there will be no connection between the two events, the format of the final will have to be drastically revised.

To establish the supreme title holder, the four of the 10-plus winners who do best in the champions' contest will compete again on the race track, but not in a speed event, during a break between races.

They will thus enjoy maximum publicity.

Twenty-six regional contests have so far been arranged compared with 28 last year. Local committees are free to seek sponsorship as they wish.

The LDoY Association was inaugurated as a limited company last week to run the event. Officers are unchanged, with Gerry Aston continuing as president and John Wells as secretary. Mr Wells operates from 1 Stockbury House, Church Street, Storrington, West Sussex; phone 09066 5451.
