Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

RAISING the tax on diesel fuel or increasing the commercial vehicle road fund tax is an inflationary action said Road Haulage Association national vice-chairman Harold Russett.

Speaking at the annual dinner of the RHA South Wales area last week Mr Russett said such increases will mean higher prices for just about everything.

This reiterates the RHA's submission to the Chancellor not to raise diesel fuel tax or lorry road fund tax in the forthcoming Budget.

"The Chancellor has only to remember that because transport accounts for approximately 10 per cent of the cost of everything we purchase, be it for our business or domestic needs, anything which stabilises transport costs will go a long way towards stabilising prices across a whole range of products and services".

Mr Russett also suggested that lorries now pay their share of road costs, and there is no justification for raising road fund tax.
