Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

FREIGHT TRANSPORT is the industry that practically never fails.

Freight Transport Association president Malcolm Banks made this the theme of his speech to the Association's South Eastern counties division annual luncheon at East Grinstead on Tuesday.

Despite inadequate Government investment and the criticism of politicians and environmentalists, freight transport, said Mr Banks, has been particularly successful in adapting to increased and new demands.

He said that if goods did not appear on time, the cause was most unlikely to be a transport failure.

The recent road haulage strike had provided a "dire warning" of what could happen if the road transport industry did fail.

Mr Banks said that the effect of the strike was not even worse because of "The inherent flexibility and ingenuity of transport and those who run it."
