THE annual report of the London and Home Counties Division of Traders' Road Transport Association states that "a wonderful job " is being done in traffic matters for all commercial vehicle operators using C licences.
-T.R.T.A. views are now widely sought and respected," says the report. " We do not object for the sake of objection to proposals for imposing loading bans, and we concentrate on seeking ways by which the objectives of the highway authorities can be met, while leaving reasonable facilities for loading and unloading.
"Ignorance in these matters is sometimes frightening. The first reactions of some shopkeepers at Hackney, and more recently at Poole, on being told by us of the possibility of an all-day or near allday ban was 'Don't be silly, they cannot do it.'
"This ignorance perhaps explains why so many firms who ought to support our efforts by membership do not do so."
